1st Time to Europe for 2nd Player Coming to CAPT Seefeld with Us

The past month has been unbelievable for me poker wise. Prior to December, I hadn't really played much poker since my pathetic showing at the WSOP. I feel like that time off from the game got me rejuvenated and excited to play. While the results have been there, I am still noticing a lot of leaks in my game. Most of the leaks I am noticing deal with late game play, but I do feel like I am slowly correcting them.

One of my many New Years Resolutions was to play more live poker. I live about ten minutes from Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh so it shouldn't be too hard to accomplish it. So far I have played three live tournaments, all of which were the Saturday Deepstack tournaments. I've cashed in one of the three tournaments, taking 4th for about $1,700. And while I think I have played well, the two times I have been eliminated have been on river bluffs that I know I shouldn't be making against live players. The play is pretty bad and all I have to do is play solid poker and the results will come.

Coming from an online poker background, I find it extremely hard to not get bored when playing live. Folding for an hour and the obnoxious player tanks just frustrate me to no end. This is a leak I am going to fix. To fix this, I want to make sure I am always mentally prepared for the live grind. Getting a good nights sleep and exercising in the morning will be my routine from here on out. Anyone have any advice on how not to punt during a live tournament?

Now to the good news...

I was fortunate enough to win an online satellite to the CAPT Main Event in Seefeld, Austria. This is the second live satellite I have won and this will be my first time ever traveling to Europe. The event is a €2,160 buyin with €800,000 guaranteed on February 25th. As of now, I don't know the structure of the tournament, but I do know that players get a 50k starting stack, so I have to imagine the structure is pretty good. My plan is to travel around Austria and possibly Germany while I am there. I want to take full advantage of this opportunity because I know this may be the only time I ever get to be in Europe.

I look forward to sharing my experiences with you guys.

Winning his way to Austria was just what the first CAPT Seefeld satellite winner needed right now

The first player to win their way to CAPT Seefeld was Robert Szum of Chicago. He'll be going to Austria with winners of two more online satellite series.

Robert won his ticket to the December 20th CAPT Seefeld Online Satellite Final in an NFL Game Score Challenge that a poker room ran on Facebook. Now he’s won his way to Austria without spending a dime.  Nice one Robert!  By the sounds of it, he could use a break like this right now.

By day, Robert works in customer support for a major internet service provider.

“I’m just a low stakes recreational player,” he said from his home in Massachusets. “I’ve been playing through a long downswing lately and my poker bankroll is at all time low.  I’m virtually running on fumes!”

Fortunately the prize package he won includes buy-in for the CAPT Seefeld Main Event and accommodation at a hotel near the casino.  It also includes some money for travel expenses but he said he could use a good run to put some cash in his pocket before the trip to Europe next month

Main Event - EPIC Comeback

Hey guys,

so Ive played day 1A of the 500€ Main Event and as usual I started out very good ;-)

I had one of the softest tables ever, and was able to play nearly every hand, because there wasnt one guy on the table which was playing back at me.
I build up a very good stack and everything went smooth, till 20 left.

I got it in with QQ vs AK for over 200 K stack and 100K avg, but unfortunatelly he hit his K. He left us with 1 ante only (500 chips with blinds 2k/4K) and then the sickest comeback ever started.

I won the first hand, which left us 1 BB. I folded 27o then ^^ and next hand I doubled.
Then I had a huge streak and won 6 showdowns in a row, which got us back to 120 K chips with 100 K avg. So I was able to grind normal again.

With 19 left I got it in with FD in a blindbattle against flopped straight again for over 200 K (which was TOP2 pot at this moment), but we dont hit and i bust.

Overall Im dissapointed because we only cashed once, and the field was VERY soft.

But you cant do much against bad luck.

My next stop will be CAPT Seefeld in February.

This will be a much bigger series, and hopefully we run deep there.

Thanks again to INTERTOPS Poker for being my partner for these tournaments, and hopefully cu soon.

Cheers, Monti

DAY 1 + 2 with a small cash

Hey guys,

Ive played 2 tournaments so far, and had a semi-deeprun in the 215€ Warmup.

My first table was super soft, i was able to play nearly every hand.
In the first hour i folded only 3 hands preflop <3
I build up a good stack really fast, and it was kinda easy game.

With 15 left I was 2nd in chips, and then the "run" was over.

I got it in with monsterdraw against 2 people for 2,5 x CL pot and the board bricks.
Then i get it in with TT < QQ, KJ < AQ (SB vs BB) and bust on 13. place with A8 < 44

I cashed a little, but still was very dissapointed, because I could have won a lot more with the luck on my site ;-)

Yesterday I played the 150€ NL HE tournament and had an OK stack with 35 players left.
Then a buddy of mine came to our table, and I lost nearly all my chips to him.
He was also the guy which busted me with AT > QJ, so unfortunatelly no cash this time.

Today Im going to play the 864 € KO tournament.
Its kinda strange structure, because you dont get the 400€ KO instant - the KOs will be payed for every 3rd person which gets knocked out, and noone knows if there is a KO on the player or not.

Im looking forward to make a final table in this series, lets hope for the best.

If i play some tricky hand Im going to post it here, stay tuned.

Cheers, Monti
